Parish Life

Participation in ministries gives one a stronger sense of belonging to the parish community and your efforts could result in someone’s life being changed for eternity. You also begin to care more about the things you're involved with and understand that the church is definitely worth the effort.  Join us in creating hundreds of personal connections and lifelong friends by volunteering at your church. 


Programs

  • Visitation of the homebound:  Visitation of the homebound occurs every Sunday with Communion if desired. The Pastor also visits the homebound every first Friday of the month.

  • Eucharistic Adoration:  Eucharistic Adoration occurs every first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.

  • Prayer-line:  Call Betsy Williams at 838-1503 or 323-7625 any day until 9 p.m.

  • Sister Parish program:  This organization's goal is to keep the parish informed about our commitment to Santa Inesur Sister parish in Dzitas, Yucatan Mexico.  Members share news of St. Julia with the members of Santa Inesur and share Santa Inesur's news with the members of St. Julia.  Members find ways to help meet Santa Inesur's needs. St. Julia has just celebrated our 20th anniversary with Santa Ines.  Members meet in Dec. or Jan. to prepare for Recommitment Sunday and again in Feb. to prepare for the Fiesta. A wrap-up meeting is held after the Fiesta. Location of meetings vary. Membership is open to anyone in the parish. Our Sister Parish program has allowed the parish community to grown in our faith and understanding of how we are all one world under the direction and love of Christ.   • Small Prayer group - Acts II:  The goal of this Charismatic prayer group is to spread God's love and His Word and to invite people into a deeper relationship with Him.  Members meet every Sunday at 3 p.m. Julia House, located behind the church on Roslyn Ave.  Summer hours take effect May 19 at which time hours will change to 6 p.m. Contact Jack Heintzel at (814) 838-1325 to learn more.

Ministries and Organizations

  • Adult & Youth Choir: Contact Cheryl Schodt at 490-9625 to learn more.

  • Altar and Rosary Society: All women of the parish are welcome to join our Altar and Rosary Society.  Meetings and prayer of the rosary occurs monthly, the first Wednesday of each month at 11 am in the Church Social Hall.  This organizations holds two fundraisers every year which allow for the purchase and/or repair of any Altar flowers, linens, re-plating the Chalice, etc.  Contact Peg Westhoff 833-6878 to learn more.

  • Finance Committee:  The Finance Committee meets quarterly on the third Thursday of each quarter at 4:30 pm at the Parish Rectory House. The committee is made up of duly appointed parish members who work with the Pastor to determine a yearly budget, approve the Diocese Annual Report, exchange ideas and advice on parish spending.

  • Knights of Columbus - St. Timothy Council:  Members meet the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM at Julia House. (There are no meetings during summer months.)  This organization's mission is to support to St. Julia parish in any way possible; support the diocese through seminarian support; and support people with developmental disabilities.  On a national scale Knights also offer an insurance program, investments and other benefits for members. Knights also support prolife activities and provide financial support to disaster stricken areas.  Contact William Lenart at 838-1775 to learn more.

  • Parish Council:  Meetings are held quarterly on the first Monday of each quarter at 7 pm in the Church Social Hall. The Parish Council is composed of elected parish members, who, working with the Pastor, determine policies and execution of programs in all matters pertaining to social and spiritual welfare of St. Julia.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Everywhere you look opportunities exist for you to share God’s love and serve our community. This is work we do together in the name of Jesus Christ. Please consider shring your time and skills for doing God’s work in the world.
  • Altar servers:  An altar server assists the priest on the the altar during Mass. Altar servers learn why we do everything in the Mass; get fully involved in the Mass and get more out of it; and make some great friends.

  • Eucharistic ministers:  Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest in administering the sacraments of Holy Communion, the consecrated bread and wine.

  • Heavenly dusters:  These volunteers keep the altar, sanctuary, church, and sacristy looking fresh and ready for worship. Please consider joining this group of volunteers.

  • Lectors: Lectors are assigned to read a Biblical text other than the Gospel.

  • Ushers: Ushers help members and guests feel welcomed by assisting participants to their seats.
